One by one, all the books on the shelf slid off the racks and fell over us, our hands, chest, and head. “Step back!” I growled at Mariella. She didn’t. She pursed her lips instead and pressed her brows. Standing on her spot, she bore through the torture until all the books were on the floor, disarrayed in a pile. I heaved a sigh as our eyes met. Fear floated in hers and she tore her gaze to the pile. “Let me adjust the shelf,” I said to her. “Don’t move or it’ll fall on us.” She nodded. Making sure her hands were sturdy, I grabbed the end of the shelf and angled it back on the wall so that it wouldn’t fall over or slip back. I huffed, shaking my hands and cracking my knuckles.

"But we have some issues here. I can't read the content. It says only a true alpha with divine power from the moon goddess can decipher it." Marinetta stood up, a determined glint in her eyes. "I’ll give it a try." She took the book from Maranda and, to everyone's amazement, began to read the ancient text. "The book lists the materials needed for a ritual and some spells," she explained, her voice steady.

Nerrian admitted shaking his head. When I showed up today, he had given me a book and was translating the words in my head again. At times it had been disconcerting, but it worked incredibly well. Mara had no idea of what the book was about; those words were all it had and the back was completely plain and painted red.
