From the gas station, we went to a supermarket, where, once again, the universe
helped us beautifully, with skewers of pink shrimp freshly caught from the sea, mushrooms,
pieces of onion and green and red bell pepper. A showcase of fresh local raspberries
attracted me. Then Mark asked me to choose the wine, and I selected a pinot gris from the
Oregon.
"I've always thought it a waste of time to go to the trouble of making food," said
he.
"That won't be any more work than getting cheese and crackers or getting a
sandwich ready, and it will be very tasty.
His upper lip twitched, as if he was hiding a smile. — I always thought
