Marina I don’t want to get married today. Pure discomfort is radiant in my reflection as I sit on that damn chair in front of the mirror while my mother is standing behind me. She is humming to herself and braiding pearls into my hair to create that perfect Victorian hairstyle. She is calm and collected. And I hate how she is acting as if it’s perfectly normal to marry off your teenager to some random guy from another tribe before she has even turned eighteen. His name is Rain. I haven’t met him yet. My mother says it’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding, but I had hoped to at least see his face before our parents had arranged this wedding.

Days later, Habbab I am standing in the center of the wedding hall, surrounded by friends and family. The ceremony where I paid for my bride, as a symbolic gesture, has ended, and finally, the moment arrives for us to join in matrimony. My heart beats with excitement as I wait for Melek to walk down the aisle toward me. Soft music plays in the background, creating an atmosphere of love and happiness. Finally, I see her. Melek enters the room, radiant in her white dress, her smile lighting up the entire room.

Just on time, the lights spelling ‘Marry Me’ erupted, brightening the whole place just as I simultaneously went down on one knee, “Marry me,” I pleaded. “I want to wake up next to you every morning,” I continued. “I want to fall asleep holding you every night. The gown floated softly over her tummy which was beginning to expand but not too obvious and a sheer veil completed the bridal look.

Mr Knights says, his voice dripping with arrogance. “I agree. We should meet at the Bella Casa Hotel”. Dad agrees, his eyes searching mine, but I remain emotionless. “Alright, we'll see you tomorrow, Mr. Marshall.” “You too, Mr. Knights.” He clicked the phone off and looked at me, saying, “Well, you're meeting your bride tomorrow, son.” I give him a look. “Contract Bride.
