I swallowed. "I know." *** The fastest way to understand something is to go to the library. So here I stood… for what felt like the hundredth freaking time since I was born. Mason’s library was massive—towering shelves stretching endlessly upward, walls swallowed by books, scrolls, and ancient artifacts sealed behind glass. It made the Pack library look like a children’s reading corner. Warm golden lights glowed overhead.

Books began to float off the shelves, swirling around us in a vortex of paper and leather. "Aurora," Mason said softly, his voice a stark contrast to the chaos around us. "Breathe. You're stronger than this. You can control it." His faith in me, so different from Ethan's constant worry, hit me like a physical blow. I took a deep, shuddering breath, feeling the power recede slightly. The books dropped to the floor with a series of thuds. Ethan seized the moment of calm. "This is exactly what I'm talking about," he growled, glaring at Mason. "You encourage her recklessness. You don't understand the danger she's in, the target on her back!"

POV Zara When we stepped into the Marshall residence, the chill in the air didn’t seem to matter. Kayden’s mother immediately fussed over me as usual, saying, “You’re wearing too few layers, Zara! Quick, bring an overcoat for the Young Madam.” I barely had time to protest before they wrapped me in another layer. Honestly, I was fine, but Kayden’s Mother’s warmth and concern made me feel like I was being pampered beyond belief. This was the Marshall family way—especially when it came to their daughter-in-law.

We're going to spend the rest of our lives together and I can't fucking wait. He even dared to follow Hayden to his house! “Oh, wow! Big house, huh?” Mason said, strutting haughtily into Hayden's mansion like the owner. His neck moved as he took in the view. He nodded at the sight he saw, “Looks like your identity is really precious, huh?” Mason said, and with that, he sat on the sofa, spreading his legs wide like an uncultured brat.

The cat was happy, Mason walked back over to his seat and resumed his position, picking up his e-reader and picking up the story where he left off. He kept reading until his eyes got gritty and then he dragged himself to bed, reading some more until he was falling asleep. He put the book down and closed his eyes, but the images from the book played behind his eyelids like a movie. The book was fucking great and was sure to be a bestseller and she was leaving that decision up to him.

An unexpected plus one soured Mason's mood. He closed his eyes, took a breath to compose himself, and when he opened them, his face was plastered with a phony grin. "Hello!" Amber, who had been all smiles with Alexander, gave Mason a frosty nod in greeting. In a setting like that, no one was flashing smiles. "I'm Mason, right-hand man at the Trio Alliance Club in Ol' Mare. Miss Chesire, punctuality isn't your strong suit, is it?" Mason's face was sour as he introduced himself, trying to come off strong.

He grumbles, his voice rough with sleep. He gently grabs my wrist and pulls my hand away, then rolls me away from him and snuggles into my back. I huff but he just chuckles and falls back to sleep. I’m restless and can’t relax, even listening to Asher and Aspen's soft snores. And then it hits me why. Mason is gone. Where did he go? Why did he leave? Maybe he didn’t leave. Maybe he was taken By the same Earth Fae that attacked me?

Havoc There were too many people milling about in my house. Their loud voices pierced my brain, bringing me back to reality when all I wanted to do was forget. It seemed that most of the Savage Sons were in my living room talking loudly and arguing with each other. Maggie had called them in and of course, they had come. The damn club would do just about anything for my grandmother. Partly through respect; she had been a fixture in their lives for years, and partly because everyone was a little scared of her. They didn’t call her Mayhem Maggie for no reason.

Mason asked as we walked back home funny enough he lived in the same apartment complex as me and due to experience it took me a while to finally accept that not all people are evil, especially when you have a short experience of someone like Sylvester. Funny enough how I didn't hear from him again. “Well it was fun, I had friends and families, I had a job and I pretty much had my life together!*. Liess!!!!!! “I have only been to Chicago once and that was it, I went to my grandma's funeral last year!” Masin explained. Mason was a tall chocolate skinned man. He had a beautiful set of brown eyes and his hair was very much curly. His skin looked so flawless that it looked like hot chocolate.
