I had a feeling being labelled as crazy would be a lot harder to come back from, so as much as I was beginning to enjoy her running commentary, I knew I had to shield myself and keep her locked out until I got my pills! "Are you truly a virgin?" I heard Matteo ask, and my heart all but stopped. How the heck did he know that? I had hardly acted like the innocent virgin! Which was part of my plan; I read books, and so I knew what men like him wanted in a partner... sweet, innocent, pure! Not loud, crass and opinionated. And if Matteo's actions this morning at breakfast had taught me anything, it was evident that he was the biggest and the baddest amongst those he surrounded himself with.

"Should be one of the kids the debtor brought over, Probably forgot this one. Richard's men didn't finish the job." He looked down at me, his eyes devoid of anything resembling a soul. "Hmm. A leftover from the Mann family's mess. Interesting." He reached down, offering a hand to help me up. "Hi, kiddo. My name is Matthias. Don Matthias." I didn't take the hand. I looked at the blood on his friend’s sleeve and the coldness in his eyes. "Where is my brother?" I spat, the words fueled by a sudden, jagged hate. "Where is everyone? You’re evil people. You’re all evil!"

He doesn’t look at Charlie or I but at Matthew. “Who are you?” Zach shouts out at him but stays rooted to the spot A sinister smile appears on Matthews face as he takes his eyes off of Charlie to focus on him. “My name is Matthew. First Hybrid” “That’s not possible” Zach calls out and I hear Matthew laugh I had never heard him laugh, it was dark and menacing. Was this really a person I wanted as a consultant? “Well Zach, there are many things that you do not know. The world has moved on and you are just one of many”

I didn’t have to turn to know the owner of that voice. Matteo. He always had a strange sense of timing when it came to visiting me. But then again, I couldn’t blame him. Matteo was a big-time celebrity, and anyone who didn’t know him well would assume he thrived in the spotlight—that loud, extroverted energy his career demanded. The truth? He despised the limelight with every bone in his body. Sometimes I wondered why he even chose to be an actor if he hated the glare that much. "I’ve told you to stop walking into my house at odd hours," I muttered, my voice low, still refusing to turn toward him. My gaze stayed fixed on nothing in particular as I swirled the amber liquid in my glass.

He suggests as he motions towards our surroundings. - "Is there anyone you can think of who could give us any insight about it?" I instigate. -"Yeah, but you wouldn't like to know who he is." -"He can't be worse than dead, can he?" -"If anyone were to know about two-spirit wolves inhabiting the same host, it would be Elder Theo. He is the only bookworm I can think of." Matt unveils. -"Never mind, he is worse than dead." Matt chuckles at my comment.

Anything more than this, I would have slapped him even though he saved my life just now. “What does Mattheo have that I don't?” His question repeated itself. "Your attitude is like a plant that would die without the sun. Depending on the only light resource available. But Mattheo, can you think of him as your sun, even if he doesn't know your current plight?" “Shut the fuck up,” I retorted, coldly. "You know nothing about our relationship. Mattheo wasn't born a bad person, I believe something made him this way."

I turn to the other man to see his expectant face. Matthias is shorter than I am by a few inches. With his high cheekbones and curly brown hair, he might have been considered attractive if a person isn’t aware of his personality. He holds himself with the arrogance of a man whose always been catered to and expects nothing less. In some ways, he reminds me of my wife’s late brother, Prince Jacob. “I’m sure you’re aware there’s been a shortage of feeders,” I begin. “It’s becoming difficult to find fresh blood to sustain us in the castle.”

He turned away, gazing distantly out of the window: "Amongst all our brothers, it's just me and him left. Tell me, can I really take him down?" Eliminating Ethelbert would be simple. But what about the vows of brotherhood they once took? His subordinate was taken aback, staring fixedly at the towering figure of his boss, eventually letting out a sigh. Everyone considered Matthew a ruthless wolf, ready to sink his fangs into any daring prey. Cold-blooded, cruel, inhumane... numerous frightening labels were attributed to him. Yet, Matthew turned out to be a man of such loyalty and integrity that it was astonishing.

"You know now that I think about it. You sound a lot like Tommy" Matteo chuckled. "I actually raised Tommy so you could say Tommy takes after me. That kid is always laughing and smiling, telling silly jokes, people often mistake him for a joker" Matteo shakes his head "makes people forget he is a made man just like the others, he just hides it better and beneath all that smile is another ruthless Salvatore"

“No, thanks.” Matteo mirrored my position, his gangly legs shooting straight out, and locked in on the night sky. I’d overheard Daddy say Matteo was very smart, and he even skipped a grade last year. He said he’d be just like Mr. Vitale. Sometimes he even talked like him. Of course, I wasn’t all that impressed. After a long silence, he said, “There’re a billion stars, Nutella girl, and they all shine for you. My mama shines for my pa, but you will shine for me. Right?”
