Mayonnaise On An Escalator Novels & Stories

Meng and Sunny had found their groove with the games, while Aunt Baby and I stood on the side, watching them. We began discussing Poppy because Aunt Baby had noticed her innocence too. Earlier, as we took the elevator to this floor, Poppy had been clearly startled. She even grabbed my arm when it started moving upward. Then, when we passed the escalator, she couldn’t take her eyes off it, looking mesmerized by the sight of people riding it up and down.

My arm circles her waist holding her in place. The moment the door opens a wave of heat and sound clashes over us. Slot machines ringing, glasses clinking, conversations overlapping in a chaotic melody of indulgence. “You okay?” I ask, watching Maya's eyes squint from the sudden brightness. She lets out a shaky breath mumbling a small yeah. “It's going to be fine, just don't talk if it's not necessary.”

Five minutes later, they noticed an escalator leading to the floor they were headed for. Abby and Massimo were using the escalator and still holding hands.
