The guy in the unlucky lane on the other hand ended up with a whopping 17 seconds. At that point, they knew who was getting that 40%. Even Aiden had to admit that he pitied the guy. “Woah, Miles. What a great strategy! How did you come up with that ?”. One of the obnoxious boys in their class exclaimed. He put his hands up in defense as a response. “I swear I fight do it on purpose. My shoe was untied and it slipped off by accident”.

The treadmill belt whirred louder. I didn’t hear the door open. Didn’t notice the shift in the air. My foot landed wrong. Just half an inch off, but at that speed, it was enough. The world lurched. My balance went sideways. The belt yanked my leg back and— Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around my waist. The treadmill emergency stop slammed down. The belt screeched to a halt. I gasped, hands flying out, fingers digging into solid muscle and fabric. My forehead hit a chest.

Maya complained next to me. I smiled, gave her the fruit, and said, "It's not because the camera doesn't work well. I heard that cameras are mounted on dirt walls. When the maze changes, the walls will rise and fall without any regularity, so the organizers don't know which camera will be active because they have to switch images from one camera to another continuously."

Ahrio shook his head, muttering some incomprehensible curses under his breath before turning around and walking away from them to proceed finding the way out of the maze and the unlock booster. In this rate, they’ll end up using up the time and dying because of childishness.

“I ran into a few hurdles.” “I’m putting you on speaker so the guys can hear this,” Maize laughed, then before Ben could protest, two other voices joined the conversation. “What’s going on, man,” Lenny said. “Long time no hear, bro,” Dutch added right after. “Go ahead, tell us how the mighty tracker Benjamin has failed his first ever mission,” Maize snickered, barely able to keep her humor in check. “I said I ran into some hurdles, you brat,” Ben said through gritted teeth. “But I think I found a way to move things along.”

I really did forget to blow it and the racers had ran above the crossing line, heading towards the woods already. I blew the whistle continuously to get them to come back. They did, almost crawling their way over to us due to how tired they looked. “I apologize for going off like that. Uh, I was a little bit distracted.” I said to the people around even though no one asked for an explanation.

“OK, let's get on with it.” One of his men fumbled with the tapes. He picked one, chucked it into the slot, and pushed the start button. They watched them one after the other without batting an eyelash. Four were played first and they saw nothing which would show any strange movement of people. On the fifth, one of his men noticed it right away. All of them moved upright at the same time. “Let me see it. Move away you cretins,” ordered Colonel Follows whose view was covered by the rest. They realized what they were doing and promptly moved away.
