Maze Runner: The Scorch Novels & Stories

"The anchor stones aren't masking you anymore." The vehicle swerved, leaving the relatively smooth path for rougher terrain. The silver grass whipped against the windows as we cut across the open plain. "There," Marcus pointed to a distant ridge where dark shapes moved against the copper sky. "Sanctuary scouts. If we can reach them—" A sudden impact rocked the vehicle, sending us skidding sideways. Through the rear window, I glimpsed a distortion in the air—like heat waves but more structured, moving with purpose.

With quick motion, he slashed into the sand beneath his feet, creating a makeshift pit as the raging winds tried to tear him apart. When the storm subsided hours later, the next challenge surfaced. Sskkkrrtt… A sharp, unnatural scraping sound came from beneath the sand ahead of him. Rayden instantly tensed, his hand never leaving the sword’s hilt. The sand before him trembled, then exploded upward as a monstrous creature burst out. An Obsidian Glass Scorpion, a vicious spicerermony beast the size of a horse. Its jet-black shell gleamed like volcanic glass, and its long tail ended in a crystal stinger dripping corrosive venom.

solid ice balls the size of a human fist shoot out from the triggered spell circles with enough force to knock out a few teeth if Colin isn't careful or if Honey isn't fast enough "--aaand he's through! Did you see that? Those ice balls had taken out nearly half of the other participants all throughout the Tournament but Honey breezes through unscathed! What's this? It seems Zafir and his Sunrise aren't fazed by it either and they are steadily gaining--" Because it was an air race, the participants are guided to the route they need to follow by their holo screens. There are a total of 168 different traps, set to go off randomly in predetermined areas, and racers have to get through the traps

On the final day of our graduation trip, temperatures suddenly soared to dangerous levels. I came down with heat exhaustion, but my boyfriend gave our entire supply of electrolyte drinks to my best friend. "You're in good shape, and you know first aid. Just drink some water and rest for a bit. You'll be fine. "Willa's the one we need to worry about. She's always been frail, and without the electrolyte drink, she could get seriously sick." I was too dizzy to argue, so I turned to the others in our group for help, only to be met with eye rolls. "Sophie, you're taking this jealousy way too far." "Ryan was just looking after someone who's actually sick. Do you really have to act like you're abo

There was something big moving amongst the sand. Ryan stood straight, "seeing this, I think your moniker is well deserved." The Scorpion King opened its month and black sand gushed out of it like a river. A sea of sand was created that was less than half of Milton's instant desert. Both sand mages and their respective deserts floated thousands of feet above the ground. "Not a stray grain of sand, you mana control is truly impressive for a youngster. However, our level difference and the quality of our mana will dictate the outcome of this battle."

I caught a glimpse of something moving in the beams, figures draped in heavy armor, moving with a mechanical, jerky precision that reminded me too much of the labyrinth. "We have to make the ridge line," I shouted over the rising wind. "Then move faster," Maya replied, her eyes burning with the old, wild hunger of the hunt.

I felt the horrifying warmth of my own blood begin to trickle down my arm. Gritting my teeth against a wave of nausea, I launched a blast of energy, but the Scourge sidestepped it with fluid ease. I tried again, only for it to dodge with the same eerie grace. It was toying with me. Desperate, I changed tactics. I abandoned singular blasts and imagined my mana crackling and alive, superheating it into raw, untamed lightning. The chaotic energy erupted from me in a brilliant web, striking at the Scourge from all sides. It recoiled with a piercing, silent shriek that I felt in my bones.

"Good morning Lily!" Enzo, my coworker greeted "I thought I'll cover your shift again," Enzo said and sigh when I open the staff door. I threw him a cold stare. "Well, I'm already here, no need to bother," I arrived at the Diner 27 seconds before my shift. "Wew, cold." He commented. I drove my scooter almost flying, it's a good thing that I didn't get a ticket for violating the speed limit. I wore my uniform before walking through the comfort room to wash my face. Exhaustion this morning made my face sweat and head heat.

He encouraged himself, while panting for air on the ground. The scorpion raised its tail for another strike, this time Rainer rolled to the side and leaped on top it’s back. It began to screech and shake, then started running in circles to throw Rainer off. Rainer stabbed it with his sword and held on tight as it began crashing into the walls. "I’m getting dizzy!" he was starting to get sick riding on top of his enemy. Rainer could no longer hold onto the sword and fell from the scorpions back. He stood back up, holding his back.

Until he came out the door, he glance at me evilly. Ruin me? That's my line. Is it? And my life already a messed. It causes Calvary! But I don't care, that's what I want. War!
