I took a deep breath, and said, “What do you want?” He laughed loudly on the phone, and said, “Meet me at the midnight Oasis just like I said earlier, and don't keep me waiting.” I dashed out of the room immediately, took the car key, and headed downstairs. I made my way down to the Midnight Oasis, it's a bar known for its dimly lit ambiance. As I entered the bar, I scanned the whole area for the stranger, but I couldn't see him. I sat down, and decided to wait for him.

*Grace* “Thank you.” I stare at the mistletoe on the hook, my mind awash in memories, as Rob descends the ladder. I look at him when he reaches the bottom, reality dawning when I see his expression and recognize, as he just had, we’re standing under the mistletoe together. Rob’s honey-colored eyes have the dark intensity they’ve had a lot today. Though it feels overwhelming, I hold his gaze, trying to absorb the emotion. Unconsciously, his eyes shift to my lips, and I lift my mouth toward him. I’m expecting him to withdraw and hoping desperately that he won’t when he leans down.

"I have an idea. Meet me at Willow Creek Park at 7. I'll text you the exact spot." As evening approaches, nerves flutter in my stomach. I tell Alex I'm meeting a friend for dinner, hating how easily the lie comes. The park is quiet as I follow Jack's directions to a secluded clearing. I gasp as I step into view. A picnic blanket is spread beneath a weeping willow, surrounded by twinkling fairy lights. Jack stands beside it, holding a single rose. "What is all this?" I ask, overwhelmed by the beauty and intimacy of the scene.

I shake my head like a wet dog dislodging the fantasy, and focus on my task of getting those last 3 noodles stuck to the bottom. Then he finishes, voice low, “-meet me by the weeping willow. Two a.m.” It isn’t a request. It’s a command.

But I couldn't pull out on this one. The mistletoe moments would simply be a gathering to familiarize and romanticize. But aside from that, I didn't know whether they had anything surprising planned. I had learned from experience that Manhattan Island was full of surprises. But one thing was sure— there would be kissing under the mistletoe, whether planned or unplanned. As I guided Billie inside the door— holding the small of her back courteously— I stylishly looked up at the entrance, checking if there was any mistletoe dangling above us.

She was strong enough to face me at my worst, and that knowledge both thrilled and terrified me. I downed the whiskey in one gulp, the burn searing my throat, and slammed the glass down on the table. The decision was made before I even realized it. I needed to see her. To test her strength against mine. I grabbed my phone, my fingers unsteady as I typed out the message. *Meet me tonight. He was a pest that was not going anywhere anytime soon. "You didn't pick up." He exasperates over the line. "Tonight is the night we dance. I hope you are ready. If you are ready, tonight is the night for you to find out the answers to secrets you've pondered your whole life. It was trimmed with a circle of freshly fallen fake snow, and hundreds of mistletoe branches hung from sparkling golden strings. This was it. This was the year I’d step onto the dance floor and find a match. I’d dance and chat with the men in the dance circle for approximately thirty minutes before having to make a final decision. If my choice also chose me, we’d share a kiss at midnight under that mistletoe and remove our masks.
