Mei Mei X Miriam Novels & Stories

"I understand that being up here, seeing these humans living freely, making choices about love, life, and everything in between... can be overwhelming. It can cause you to question everything you have been taught and believe in. That’s normal, Kairos. It’s part of the test. But questioning doesn’t mean abandoning who you are.” Then came Mira’s name after another pause. “Mira is a good girl. She comes from a strong house, raised with values we respect. And whether you know it or not, she’s learned to love you. She’s confessed this to me many times, and I see it in her eyes. She’s gentle, loyal, and above all, she understands what this life means. She understands what it means to be beside you

Smiling faces surrounded her, offering congratulations and hugs, but she couldn't fathom the reason behind the sudden celebration. Confusion etched her features as she looked around, seeking an explanation. It was Samara who approached her with a gentle smile, her eyes warm with affection. "Mira, dear," she began softly, "you're going to be a mother." Mira's breath caught in her throat. Motherhood—a role she had never imagined for herself amidst the chaos of ruling a kingdom and mastering elemental magic. She glanced at Kade, expecting to see the same joy mirrored in his eyes, but instead found his expression unreadable.

I said quietly like it was the first time I’d ever said my name, and I wondered what it meant. The woman smiled. It wasn’t pitying, or soft. It was proud. “My name is Mira,” she said, resting a weathered hand on my knee. “My mother was a handmaiden to the queen. To Seraphine.” There it was again. That name. It kept finding me in dreams and whispers. In blood and silence. “Who was she really?” I asked. “Because I’m starting to think ‘queen’ is only the beginning.” Mira’s gaze didn’t waver.

Amara ushered her in moments later. “Good afternoon,” the woman said warmly as she stepped inside, extending her hand. “I’m Miriam.” She looked exactly how I imagined; calm, grounded, the kind of presence that didn’t demand attention but held it anyway. “Fiona,” I said, shaking her hand. “Thank you for coming.” “Of course,” she smiled. “And you must be Flavian.” He nodded. “Yes.” A beat. “I’ll admit, this is new territory for me.” Miriam’s smile didn’t falter.

she smiles at the last part, and that is before she realizes she's spoken too much, yet she's not yet introduced herself. She sighs. “I'm Miriam. Gavin is like a son to me. Well, I practically raised him,” she finally says. I would tell her my name, but I'm sure she knows it already. “It's such a shame that we meet under these circumstances again.” She adds. I nod, and proceed to introduce the people I came with. “This is my mother, Julia, and this is my very annoying best friend Leon.” I say, pointing out at each of them.

"What's your name?" "Miriam. Though most called me the Shadow Healer." She reached out with trembling hands, stopping just short of touching Lyra's face. "I thought you were dead. Everyone did. The night the Shadowlands fell, Elena smuggled you out. Gave you to a trusted friend. Then she went back to fight." "And died," Lyra said quietly. Miriam's expression flickered. "That's what they wanted everyone to believe." "What does that mean?" "It means I need to sit before I fall." Miriam moved to a chair, lowering herself carefully. "I'm not as young as I used to be. And what I have to tell you takes strength I'm not sure I have anymore."

“Didn’‍t kn‍ow she’d actually preserved her soul. Managed to reincarna‌te with memory intac‍t‌. I thought it was just… mad rambling be‌fore death.” “Tell me about her.” Miriam’s eyes went distant. Like she was seeing something‍ I couldn’‍t. “She was brilliant,” she said finally. “The strongest Luna in ge‍ne‍rations. P‍owerful beyo‌nd measure. And after the brothers betrayed her…” She paused. “She became‌ terrifying.”

I wasn't surprised by this because this is the Fifth maid Elijah is assigning to me, according to him he wants to make sure I am comfortable. “Oh really, what's your name” I don't even know why I asked, at the end of the day he is still going to assign another one and I won't remember this particular one's name. “Mirabell, but you can call me Mimi” she replied almost immediately, there was something about her that kept reminding me about Aphrodite, I don't know if it was the way she replied but I feel like I would want to keep this one as my personal maid.

Miriam opened her mouth to defend her sister and found she could not for she had come to that conclusion herself. “This is my fault,” she said. “I asked you to save her, and now we have a – a viper in our midst. I am afraid she will try and bully Ruth into tending to her needs. Old habits die hard.” “Then you must see to it she does not.” “Me?” “I am putting you in charge of the women, Miriam.” “Please call me Mia. I miss her.” “Trying to shirk your responsibilities, woman?” How had he managed to deduce that? It was true. She wanted a simple life and yet she had been born to achieve so much more.

Pack members in the kitchen were mostly women and a few men, they were moving around briskly, chatting and laughing as they worked. One of the older women looked up when she saw me. Her eye widened and she welcomed me. “Lady Elysia?” she asked, wiping her hands on her apron. I smiled softly, “I hope I’m not interrupting. I just… I wanted to help. Learn something new, maybe?” The woman chuckled. “You’re not interrupting at all my lady. I’m Miriam, the head cook.” “You want to learn how to cook? That’s a first for a Luna,” she smiled, offering me a chair to sit down.
