The ice in my very veins melted as he grew even taller than he normally was and more muscular,ripping Zephyros's tunic in the process. I staggered backwards and tripped on a branch. I fell backwards on my rump and even the sting was not enough to take my eyes off him. He exhaled and the nearest tree turned to ash immediately. i scrambled backwards on impulse and the branch i had tripped on got caught in his web. He opened his eyes and twin pools of fire peered down at me. I didn't need Luna to tell me i was not looking at Zephyros anymore...no. Not entirely. What stared back at me was the Fire Dragon.

“Sir, how is she?” Neela asked nervously. She looked at one of the silent dragons, her face full of worry. ‘The dragon she was looking at must be Belindo.’ Alex didn’t speak but observed silently. He realized that the fifty percent success rate he’d estimated was still a little too optimistic. Among the nine dragons, four didn’t react to the spell and still remained the same as before; three others looked confused, and that counted as… somewhat a success—the Ultimate Book of Medicine had cleansed their souls but had not awakened their memories.

Rex asked, a little unsure if he actually wanted to know the answer. “Well no, even crazy people have a memory of the events they take part in, all the books about crazy people even say that, I would not be surprised if it was the build-up of dragon magic released itself in a way to protect you from harm, it has done it before with Frog” Lacey replied, placing her hand on Rex’s bicep to try and comfort him. “That’s true, I didn’t know you were an avid reader” Lizz asked, a little astonished she had beaten to a response that included theoretical knowledge.

Dawn rolled over onto her stomach “hey, you do think dragons are real? That would be so cool” Lena shrugged “I dunno. It’s possible that they existed at one point but I doubt they are still around today”, she said. As a witch she liked keep an open mind about these sorts of things. Dragons weren’t featured in any of the Godmother’s books nor her mother’s grimoire which had been given to her when she turned sixteen. That didn’t mean that they weren’t around in the past. “If you want to read Goblet of Fire you know where to find it”, Lena added, taking her book back.

I don’t know where this dragon exactly is now here in the village, but I know you know where it is.”

Morry, ever deadly, twirled her daggers absentmindedly, her eyes sparkling with anticipation and mischief. Then the agony began. My bones shifted, stretched, and cracked in ways that felt both terrifying and liberating. My blood burned like molten gold, coursing with a fire I had never known. And then I saw her. In the nearby lake, rippling like liquid crystal, was her reflection - my dragon. Wait, what? I have a dragon?!?!?!?!

I blinked away the tears stinging my eyes and took off my gloves, tossing them onto the bed. My hands still glowed hot and my body was aching with the need to release. Damn it! I hopped in the shower to cool myself off and swore never to talk to that dragon ever again. The next morning Nola arrived with a stack of books she thought I might enjoy reading. “It’s all the truth about dragons and possibilities of fire mages,” she explained. “His Majesty wanted you to have them as… mementos from his collection.” She gave a small pout.

But I’ll become one someday after I finish my first book. It’s called the Way of Dragons. As it happens, we chroniclers travel a lot just to gather stories, facts, and histories. But for the most part, we explore and discover all things about the world from our own experiences. But I must say, I’m very fortunate to have real dragons in front of me to whom I can ask questions. You see, I have been formulating many theories about you … and guess what I just found out—one of them is just proven today. Dragons can talk indeed!”
