But as I continued looking at the memories of Zeek, I saw the scar on his face and realized it wasn’t Zeek at all, but Alphus. “Kitty, that wasn’t Zeek. That was someone called Alphus,” I tried to calm her down. She was shivering and in shock. “What’s wrong, Pussy Cat?” Zeek felt my distress, so I told him everything Meadow showed me. “Alphus did what?” Zeek growled. “No wonder your wolf had been dormant,” he hissed. “Meadow, if you are listening, I want you to know I love Kitty and you so much, and I’d rather die than hurt you.” He ran a finger over my face. “If you’re ready, we can fully seal our mate bond, and you could also mark me.”

I halted, meeting his gaze with a defiance I hoped masked my discomfort. "I know you don't like me. But you have to show up at the party," he insisted, a hint of challenge in his tone. "Why me?" I countered, casting a glance at Brooklyn. She seemed uninterested, her attention glued to her cellphone. Ignoring my question, Skyler leaned in closer, the smell of his cologne invading my senses, making me frown. Then, in a move that felt too intimate, he whispered in my ear, "Kyle, your favorite. He's coming."

His voice had that dangerous edge I knew too well. "It's my fault," Selene interjected with a theatrical sigh. "I made all my favorite dishes today. It's natural for Skye to be upset on her first day back. Skye, what would you like? I can prepare something else." Her eyes gleamed with triumph and challenge. But these tactics couldn't anger me anymore. "She's a grown wolf now, not some delicate pup. If you can eat it, so can she," my brother growled. "Skye, stop making everyone uncomfortable. Marya was preparing the things her team would be needing for the Valentine’s Fundraiser as she turned, her lips curling into a smile the moment her eyes fell on Skye. “Skye, you gonna stand there moping all night or help me with these?” Maya called, holding up the tangled lights. One bulb flickered weakly, like it was barely catching up. “My team’s fundraiser presentation is gonna be a mess if you don’t help me get these done. I need help” Maya says. Skye forced a smile, setting her sketchbook on the couch. “Sorry, just… distracted.” She approached Maya and grabbed the other end of the light string.

Shee had her eyes fixed ahead of her with stiff shoulders. Following her gaze, my eyes widened when I saw Skye beside the vase that had the late alpha's ashes in it. "Skye, baby," I said softly, freezing to a spot. "Come now, we could go for a walk." Skye rubbed his body around the vase, moving like a cat purring around his or her owner's feet. "Skye!" I whisper-yelled, and Skye snapped his head at me as if snarling at me for calling his name. He growled a little and then looked back at the vase before knocking it to the ground.

she said. As I looked at Skye, I noticed some sort of mark in her chest. "What is that?" I neared her as I let the meat boil for a few minutes. "What's what?" "That," I pointed at her chest and noticed a petal pattern. "Oh this, this is nothing. This girl must have got this tattoo," she said, referring to Ella. Alec noticed the odd behavior of Skye, and even Freya's brows scrunched together when she noticed the mark, and her eyes turned into a hawk as she stared at Skye with a questioning face.

I’d noticed that Skye played with the ends of his hair when he was anxious, and I wondered if that was what he was doing – and, if it was, what he had to be anxious about. That thought sent a shockwave of ice through my veins, and I whispered, “And? What did she say?” “Kathrena’s friend isn’t part of our pack, and he isn’t a werewolf, either.”

The clinic was empty but upon further inspection, they found Skye and Clide outside in the garden. Why they chose to remain outside, he wasn’t sure. Skye was pressed up against the house with his hands wrapped around his stomach and eyes scrunched shut. Distress poured off him in waves and he whimpered every time someone screamed. Getting closer, he could hear the other omega muttering the lyrics of his favourite Aldean ballad under his breath and Eician reached out to squeeze his friend’s shoulder. Skye’s eyes snapped open, and he leaned into Eician. He moved to hug his friend, gently running his hands over his back, concerned about such a reaction.
