We tumble together toward the shelter of a heavy velvet armchair just as a spray of bullets chews into the upholstery where he had been standing. The attacker steps forward to finish us, but a shadow looms over him as Zeke appears from the smoke like a vengeful ghost. He doesn’t shoot; he moves with a brutal, fluid grace, slamming the butt of his weapon into the man’s throat before spinning him around and using him as a shield against the next wave of fire. ​“Get him out of here!” Zeke bellows at me, his eyes momentarily locking onto mine with a fierce, protective heat. “Go!”

She was so weak so fragile, weighted like feathers. Zenith turned to take her to the pack doctor when suddenly he noticed something glinting in the moonlight on the ground near the pool’s edge. An earring. He bent down, still holding Violet with one arm, and picked it up, holding it up to the light. Then he took off, sprinting down the path towards the main house, his footsteps hitting against the cobblestones. Zenith was not careful, he bumped into people in a hurry, their startled gasps lost on him as he pushed past, not stopping to fucking apologize.

this was a void. My carefully constructed plan had yielded a result, but it was a result that felt more crushing than any confrontation could have. Seeing as he was a trust-fund brat with absolutely no real education or solid ambitions at all, it was not impressive reading, but there were no red flags, either. “So, green light on Casanova?” Griff said in Selena’s ear.

I turned to him and looked at him straight into his eyes. "You're pretty interesting, Leon." I said and he looked away that second. "Still hurting?" He asked as he pointed at my feet. "It's fine."

Outside in the corridor, Zeke stood just outside the door and took a deep breath to steady himself before he strode purposefully down the corridor, heading to his office downstairs. His beta, Abel, was waiting for him inside, worry creasing his handsome, boyish features. "Where is he?", Zeke questioned, moving behind his desk and sitting down. "He's dead", replied Abel, shrugging his shoulders causing Zeke to glance sharply at him. "I'm sure he was still alive when I left him", Zeke countered even as doubt clouded his eyes. "You don't know your own strength Alpha, he was dead when we found him", Abel replied as he took a sip from the glass in his hand.

That's all? The man nods his head. Azel takes a pistol out of the waistband of his pants and unhooks the safety. -Your family will be safe. he says before pulling the trigger and piercing the skull of the man who is lying on the ground right now. He hasn't even had time to say his last words ... I squeeze my eyes shut at the sound of the shot and put my hands to my mouth. Azael walks past me without even looking at me and walks out the door slamming the door.

Mia's POV I lock up the door of this old, abandoned house. Running for days because of the zombie outbreak. I find a room with bars on the windows. It looks safe, but then I hear a noise. Zeke stumbles in from the closet. He was bitten last week. His skin is gray and peeling; pus leaks from sores on his arms. He smells of rotten meat and shit. His eyes are milky white. He groans low. I retreat backward, holding my heart because it's pounding. I grab my knife but he's quick.

I bare my teeth and rise. I swing the door open hard enough to rattle the hinges, ready to break whoever’s on the other side in half. I’m met with him grinning like the bastard he is, leaning a shoulder against the frame, casual, coming to borrow sugar and not report on a potential realm collapse. “Disturbing you, am I?” Zarek drawls, voice syrup-thick and laced with amusement. He’s always been too casual with death at his back. He’s massive, taller than me, broader too, and sculpted by war itself. Black tactical gear clings to him as a second skin, plates of matte armor laced with runes pulsing dull red.

He’s my right hand man in the field. “Good. Remind everyone that any dark haired female is to be brought to me first.” I hope I can find her first, but in case I don’t, my horde has their orders. “Yes, Sir,” Cam replies. Cam’s dad and my dad have worked hard to make this hostile takeover successful for the zombies. I trust Cam. He’s my second hand for a reason. We’ve been in this battle since we were kids. We both transitioned around the same time. We are brothers in many ways.
