The 'Sonic Metal Virus' arc in the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' IDW comics was one of those storylines that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The bad ending, where the Metal Virus spreads uncontrollably, leaves a lot of characters in dire straits, but a few key figures manage to survive the chaos. Sonic, Tails, and Silver are among the lucky ones—thanks to their speed, intelligence, and time-travel shenanigans, respectively. Sonic's resilience and Tails' quick thinking kept them ahead of the virus, while Silver's future knowledge gave him a crucial edge.
Eggman, ironically, also makes it through, though his survival feels more like a twisted joke than a victory. His ego and resources kept him just out of reach of the virus, even as his own creation spiraled out of control. Shadow, Rouge, and Omega also pull through, mostly because Team Dark operates on a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality that served them well in the chaos. It's fascinating how the arc forces these characters to confront their limits—especially Sonic, who usually breezes through everything. The bad ending leaves you with this gnawing question: 'What now?' The survivors are left picking up the pieces, and that aftermath is where the real storytelling gold lies. I still get chills thinking about how close the world came to total zombification.
