Emma's eyes widened in shock and fear as she watched the creature's transformation. It was as if the very fabric of reality was being ripped apart as the man's body began to contort and shift in unnatural ways. Emma couldn't believe what she was seeing. First, the man's skin began to ripple and bulge, as if something was trying to break free from within. Then, his limbs started to stretch and twist, making them longer and thicker as time went on.His hands became paws, his face elongated into a snout, and a thick coat of fur began to sprout all over his body. His eyes, once human and kind, became feral and wild. The man let out a guttural scream that sent chills down Emma's spine.

It's going to rise and Aiden's change along with it. The last ferry boat has left the island and has left Aiden and me alone on the island. I follow Aiden into the secluded cell we found for him and as the full moon reflects through the roof of the prison, his metamorphosis unravels before my eyes. People around me took several steps back in fear upon witnessing my condition, their eyes widened in astonishment, as they surveyed me with fear and curiosity, as if I were a monster.

My organs shred to pieces, and I wait for the relief when they move back into place, but it doesn’t happen. Dazed and in pain, I lift my arm up and stare at my half-formed claws, the tufts of hair trying to grow out of my deformed appendages. I’m consumed by a dread so profound that I don’t even feel the physical pain of my incomplete transformation. Something sharp tears through my abdomen, doubling me over, and I start to vomit streams of chunky blood. “Stop!” Kane says, his voice filled with panic. “Shift back.”

Ruby’s scream rattled through her throat, her face contorting with horror as she witnessed his transformation. He dropped to his knees, then sagged forward onto his fists as his bones bent into impossible angles until they met their resistance, then snapped and contorted until his skeletal system had taken on another form. She watched with wide-eyed terror as his skin rippled and erupted with fur, his hands and feet formed paws, and claws protruded from his flesh, replacing his nails. His facial features morphed and elongated to form a snout, and saliva-coated canines pushed through his gums. The harsh cries that tore through his throat deepened into animalistic growls. Now she believed it.

Alex murmurs from behind me as I rush unsteadily to the window, something pulsing, trying to rip out of my chest. Feeling like I can't breathe, I use my remaining strength to smash out of the window, and tumble into the garden below. I feel something snap as I land with a thud on the floor, momentarily stunning me, but I don't register the pain, too preoccupied with whatever is clawing around inside of me. There is a roar before a thud reverberates through the ground next to me. Pain shot through her body, sharp and relentless. Yuna fell to her knees, gasping for air. Her spine arched, and she felt something pushing out of her lower back. She twisted to look and saw tails. Multiple tails, white and bushy, emerging one by one. The transformation was agony. Her face elongated, her teeth sharpened. Her hands became paws. Her screams turned into howls. And then it was done. Yuna looked at her reflection in the mirror and saw a creature she didn't recognize. White fur. Nine tails. Eyes that glowed an eerie silver.

15. It didn’t make sense at first. And then it did. The numbers weren’t subjects. They were ages. I stopped breathing. My legs folded beneath me before I realized I was falling.
