His gaze is dull. We may be the Romancers, but we don’t force ourselves on women. They have to be willing and of age, but these Russian bastards don’t care. I type in the last of my notes when my phone rings. It’s Doc, letting me know that Nico was awake, but Michael, the younger guard, didn’t make it. He passed earlier this morning. I close my eyes, pushing down the grief. Mafia life leaves a trail of bodies behind. But we don’t forget our own. His family lost a son. A brother, and their lives will never be the same.

Keisley made his way to his sister Sherly's room, where he found her engrossed in a book. Kyle and Hideous only glanced at Keisley and did not say a word. After all, they know him. He still has a little respect for his mother as his elder. Thus, he doesn't want to say something that might make him lose his respect. When Keisley went inside Sherly's room, he sat down. Breathing heavily, Keisley recounted the unsettling events that happened, his voice low but urgent. He wants his sister to know everything, even though it would make his mother bad in her eyes.

The family’s happiness was fragile, threatened by secrets yet to be revealed. But one thing was certain—whatever storm was brewing, they would face it together. The next morning, the Collins estate buzzed with activity as Andrew called a family meeting. Isabelle, Clara, and even the housekeeper gathered in the living room, their expressions a mix of curiosity and apprehension. Andrew stood at the center, his usual calm demeanor replaced by a determined intensity. “We need to address what’s happening,” Andrew began, holding up the ominous letter Isabelle had received. “This is no coincidence. Michael is escalating, and we need to be prepared for anything.”

I went to Ariana's ward and spoke to Michael about everything. "We have enough information. I have someone who can help," Michael said and pulled his phone. I watched him unlock his screen, and that was when I realised it was past midnight, but Michael still went through his contacts and made a call to someone. "I know you collected all the books in the library of the building that was demolished by the Dakotas to make way for the hospital," Michael said. "Where are the books?" he questioned. "I sold them to an archaeologist in Green City," I heard the man say due to the quietness of the night.

Maybe when I do, he’s going to spill the truth. “I know about Alicia and what you did to her. The elegant lady at the boutique…” Michael’s nostrils flare. I hear his fingers cracking as he clenches them into a ball. “Alicia.” He laughs humorlessly. “So, this is about her?” “I know about the others, too, Michael Stone. They are many, I guess. The women you keep for a purpose.” A storm brews in Michael’s eyes, and seeing that sends a barrage of chills down my spine.

It stopped high on my thighs and fit to my skin that it'll take a closer look to notice I was wearing a dress. I stood in front of the mirror for a full minute before I made myself stop looking. I was reaching for my shoes when the knock came. We both froze. Lila pressed a finger to her lips and crossed to the door, cracking it open just enough to see out. I stepped back and held my breath. "Is everything alright in there?" It was Mr. Collins, the dorm warden. His voice was flat and suspicious the way it always was after midnight. "Yes sir," Lila said, her voice soft and calm. That was Lila for you, she was the best at pretending when the situation arises.

Martha flipped the pages of the book she'd been reading for a couple of days now. It talked about the history of the BlackCrown Pack. She had been trying to digest the myth and the legend especially when they found out the hard way that what they thought was a myth was in fact the real deal. She wasn't the only one in the library. Alpha Derrick, her mate, was there with her. She was standing close to the bookshelf while he sat at the table with countless books opened. He looked deadpan serious, searching for answers.

" While pondering which of the many books I've read is the best, I feel someone's eyes on me. I turn and find Jacob staring. He doesn't look away even though I've caught him watching me. Hannah is talking to him, but he doesn't seem to be listening; his full attention is on me. Why is he so focused on me? I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him since Hannah hasn't left his side during the flight. There is so much I want to say to him. "Sarah?" Charles calls, bringing me back to earth. "Yes?" "I asked you a question." "Oh yes, you did." I give him a brief smile. "If I had to choose a favorite book, I would have to say-" "The Hangmen series by Tillie Cole," Jacob says before I can. I turn to

“What do you mean by that?” Michael didn’t answer. Instead, he picked up the book Joe was holding and started reading it. They spent hours in silence, the only sound being the rustle of pages. But as Joe prepared to leave, something caught her eye and made her stop. On Michael’s table was an old, tattered book. The author’s name on the cover was oddly familiar to her. “Where did you get that book?” Joe asked, pointing at it. Michael glanced at the book before replying. “It’s from the old library collection. Why? Do you know it?”
