How Novel Book Club Novels & Stories

Charlotte’s POV It was a dreary, rainy day; the perfect day to stay inside, reading in the library. Nora and I had made our home for the day at one of the tables in the library with cups of hot cocoa and a plate of cookies between us. She sat across from me with a history book open in front of her. She was supposed to be reading about the founding Alpha families, but instead, she kept sighing wistfully, trailing her little fingers across the page.

It was more for Kendra's sake, but Demitri would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy an excuse to spend more time with his friends. Every Friday after school, Kendra, Steve, and Kyle would join them for book club. They each took turns picking the book, but as usual Becca and Demitri were the only two that actually cared. While they had written summaries and detailed notes about the book, the others brought blank paper most the time so they could catch just enough facts to make it seem like they read it.

Everyone agrees, and they spend the next hour debating which book to choose. The group decides to read "Neverwhere," a novel that takes place in a fantastical version of London. They're all eager to dive into the story, and Hazel feels a sense of pride in bringing them together like this. She loves her job and the community it has helped her build. When the book club meeting is over, the members linger in the library, reluctant to part ways.
