Evelyn’s face burned. He was amused. No—more than amused. He looked downright entertained, his eyes gleaming with unmistakable satisfaction. She narrowed her gaze at him. Why… why did he look so pleased? Then, it dawned on her. Oh… he must be acting.

My eyes widened in disbelief and fury. I rose to my feet so fast my chair scraped back loudly against the floor. “What the fuck?” I growled, my voice low and dangerous. Michael just stood there, a smug, sickening smile plastered across his face. His eyes, cold and devoid of any warmth, locked onto mine. “Didn’t expect to see me, Darius?” he asked, his voice dripping with false politeness. My fists clenched at my sides. I wanted to rip that smile off his face, tear him limb from limb. What the hell was he doing here? Tonight of all nights?

And I heard everything, every breath, every eye tracking my steps. Michael stood to the side, unreadable. Not smiling. Not frowning. Just... wearing that familiar smirk. The mic felt cold in my hand. I exhaled, once. Then smiled. “Michael...” Just his name stirred soft cheers from the crowd. I kept my eyes forward. Never looked at him. “He’s a man who makes it easy to say something nice. Not because he asks for it, but because somewhere beneath the layers, there’s a soul worth admiring.”

I laughed, feeling a flutter in my chest. "Freya, what are you up to?" Michael asked, his voice low and husky. "Come on, it's a first aid kit. Have you looked at yourself in the mirror?" I replied. "Yeah, in fact, I looked like the one and only billionaire Michael Smith," he said with a smirk, his eyes gleaming with amusement. I bit my lip, acknowledging that he was right. Despite his company's struggles, Michael's confidence remained firm and that doesn't affect his financial status.

Less the drooling, of course. I almost hitched my breath when my eyes had a glimpse of a small smile on his lips. That was a rare sight to see because Michael Montero's little curve on his lips is worth the whole world's most expensive diamond. But his smile is far from being genuine; it was more of sarcasm and mocking me even without using his words. "I would let you do that. Do whatever you want. But keep in mind that it was 'your' family who asked mine for help."

A scream. I don't know, but it is born somewhere deep in my throat to emerge as a kind of guttural wail as I try to hang onto enough sanity and control to keep myself supported over the bed. Something moves and, straining my neck a little to see: It's Michael, smiling as he seats himself on the edge of the bed. Every single time our eyes made contact with each other, he would smile so brightly. “You brat. Don't think that you can bribe me and change my mood after what you did to me. You vomited on me”.
