She trashed around, restless, pacing, prowling, growling low, where no one could hear her but me, and I bore the brunt.
Calm down, I told her. She did not.
The feast wound down slowly. It wasn't technically over like Alice had said. Wolves filtered out in groups, some shifting forms as they vanished into the forest beyond the estate.
The chandeliers dimmed and the music faded.
The night exhaled. I exhaled alongside it.
The scent of smoke, wine, and roasted meat clung to the air. Servants were already clearing goblets and plates, their heads lowered in quiet efficiency. A few wolves passed by me with curious glances. Some nodded respectfully.
