When I opened the door, a blast of cold air hit me like a wave. It reminded me of that scary time after a really tough delivery, when I was shivering and truly thought that I might not make it. Matthew Smith's voice came from behind me, sounding totally surprised. "Shirley? It's freezing out there. Come on in!" He did not even seem to care that I was sporting a six-month old baby bump. He pushed me aside roughly, but he was super gentle with the person he was bringing inside.

That night I lay in my bed wide awake thinking about Tobias and Callum and Blackthorn and the way information moved through this house in directions it wasn't supposed to move. And then I heard it. Down the corridor. Past midnight. Footsteps stopping outside my door. I lay completely still. Then the footsteps moved on. Past my door. Down the corridor. Away. I sat up slowly. I knew those footsteps. Zaden. Outside my door at midnight. Not knocking I sat in the quiet of my room and pressed my hand against my chest and tried to figure out what to do with that. I couldn't figure out what to do with that. I lay back down and stared at the ceiling.

He smiled. After a long shower I head to bed in Liam’s room. He is still on the couch reading a book. Its not long before I am settled under the covers that I feel Liam lay down beside me. I don’t want to talk so I pretend to be asleep, within minutes he is snoring. *** I wake up to the moon shinning bright on my face. I don’t hear Liam snoring. I feel beside me and he is gone. I hear his footsteps heading down the hall and the front door creak open and then shut.

“Join me!” María’s pulse quickened. She knew Evie—or thought she did. One of those American girls who lounged on the beach by day, all tanned limbs and carefree laughter. The invitation was dangerous, tempting. She glanced around—no one. The sea glowed, warm and inviting, the moonlight speckling its surface like scattered diamonds. For the first time, María understood the pull of a midnight swim. She tugged her sundress over her head, letting it fall to the sand, leaving only her thin cotton slip. Her long black hair cascaded down her back, her green eyes catching the light as she stepped into the water, the warmth wrapping around her like a lover’s arms.

Chapter Eight Marguerite I rubbed on my eyes as I sat up on the unfamiliar bed and equally unfamiliar room, while I tried to recall the events of the previous night. Right. Challenge. Lost the game. Currently in Anders’ home.. I looked around the room once more, noting the beautiful view. It was painted cream and a light shade of purple. The bedsheets and duvet matched the purple. There was also a floor-to-ceiling window, though the blinds were currently closed, allowing little rays of sunlight to seep through. I didn’t get a good look at the room last night, while I was busy locking parts of me that I was sure I wouldn’t need anymore. That included my vulnerable and soft side. I pushed off

I would like to thank all of you who stuck with me through this series of books, and even those of you who have only read this book (or just two of the three). It has taken me a year to work through all three books, but I was determined to do my best to end the series on a sweet note. She almost sounded bored with the whole thing. “Maybe,” Rem responded with a chuckle. He would not tell the whole truth just yet, but I could tell that he was being utterly smug about the whole thing. “Anyway, the ritual will take place over there, where the moon will be directly overhead at midnight - please follow the instructions from Sam of what to do with your blood as it has to be exactly right for this to work,” Eva relayed to Rem and me, though she now ignored me and turned to walk away.

I took my time reading, and another hour went by. On finishing the third book, I realised I hadn’t read them in the right order. It seemed Finding the One was the first book, followed by The Claiming Rites, and then Under the Red Moon. This was a trilogy that needed to be read in the right order. I stared closely at the books and found the numbers on them written on each book from one to three, just like I arranged them. These numbers were written on the drawn-out full moon on the bottle right of the book’s front page, and, being set beside each other in the formal order, the full moon glowed.
