I didn’t get into college, so I took a job driving a city bus. Once I finished training, I started working the night shift with Uncle Tim. He had always been the kind of guy who followed every rule. But that night, he wouldn’t let me pick up a single passenger. He even made me keep the bus dark the entire route. Uncle Tim died shortly after that incident. A few days later, someone told me something that made my blood run cold. Uncle Tim had actually been dead for quite some time. So who the hell had been riding with me that night?

It was a long time before I fell asleep, and then I woke up just a few hours later from a nightmare where Rob was trying to kill me. I turned the lamp on and paced the floor. I turned my phone back on and had ten more texts from Rob.

The car chasing us disappears in the rearview in seconds. When he finally slows down, we’re behind a house that looks abandoned. Some windows are shattered, paint peeling off the walls—like no one’s stepped inside in years. Midnight pulls out his phone and makes a call. His voice is low, tense, but steady. I can’t make out what he says.

The motorcycle roared down the desolate highway, its engine echoing through the early morning stillness. Maria gripped the handlebars tightly, her knuckles white, as Marko leaned heavily against her back, his breath shallow and uneven. The horizon was tinged with the soft hues of dawn, but the darkness still clung to the edges of the world, mirroring the uncertainty that loomed over them.
