That gave me an idea. A terrible, desperate idea that might get us both killed but was better than facing Christopher's hunters head-on.
I phased across the distance and grabbed Mike by his torn shirt, hauling him to his feet. He screamed, thinking I was going to kill him. Instead, I pulled him in front of me like a shield.
"Call them off," I commanded, my claws at his throat. "Or I kill your contact right now."
Christopher's expression didn't change. "Mike is expendable. A useful source of information, but ultimately replaceable. Killing him won't stop us."
