Before I could respond, my phone buzzed. Clara’s voice came through, high-pitched and urgent: "Elena, come quick! The monitors spiked—the nurse saw your mother's eyes moving!"
I mumbled a hasty "thank you" to the stranger and bolted toward the ICU elevators.
Dr. Morales was already checking María’s vitals when I burst into the room, my wolf pacing anxiously beneath my skin.
"You saw movement?" he asked Clara.
"Yes, her eyes tracked the light when the nurse came in," Clara confirmed, her hands shaking. "We both saw it. It wasn't just a reflex."
