The sun had dipped below the rooftops, painting the sky in gentle shades of amber and violet, and the first fireflies were beginning to flicker low over the grass. Gabriel knelt before me, holding out that simple silver ring—no glitter, no show of wealth, just smooth, honest metal. His expression was open, unguarded, waiting.
