It's the first time in weeks anyone's touched me like they actually wanted to, not like I'm something breakable or something contagious, just a friend who missed me.
"I slipped the invite under your locker, by the way" she admits, pulling back, wiping quickly at her eyes before anyone can see. "I wasn't even sure you'd come, but I figured if you did, maybe we could finally talk. I've missed you so much it's honestly embarrassing."
"You're an idiot," I say, but I'm smiling now, something loosening in my chest that's been tight for what feels like forever. "A sweet idiot. Thank you."
