It simply softens them until they no longer sting. I think that’s what healing really is not forgetting, but remembering differently. Before I sleep, I check my emails. There’s one unread message from the poetry studio they want to feature one of my pieces on their site. I laugh softly, surprised. I scroll through the list of poems I’ve written, and my eyes land on the one that started it all the first poem after he left. It was titled “The Weight of Letting Go.” I open it, read the first few lines, and realize how far I’ve come.

Just two lives that once intertwined — now moving in different directions. I exhale. I miss her. But not the way I used to. Not like something torn from me. Not like an open wound I couldn’t stop touching. I miss her the way you miss a song that once meant something — soft, familiar, a melody that lives quietly in the background of memory. I miss her without expecting her return. And in the deepest, smallest part of myself — one I keep carefully untouched, I wish she could still be mine. Not as possession. Not as salvation.

It’s difficult to let go, especially when my heart still clings to you, but I’m holding onto the hope that I can find my way. I genuinely wish for your life to be flourishing, and I hope you don’t spend too much time thinking about me. Honestly, I wish you would think of me sometimes, but I hope that when you do, it doesn’t bring you too much pain. I want to say I love you, but I fear it might sound desperate; the truth is, I can’t help it—my feelings for you are real and unwavering. I miss you more than words can express, and I know that my love for you will linger on, perhaps forever.

I whispered into the silent room, my voice filled with a mixture of longing and grief. "I miss you so deeply, my love," I continued, my voice barely a whisper. "Every fiber of my being aches for you, and I find myself yearning for you with each passing day. I wish you hadn't left this world, but I understand that God knows better. I will hold onto the memories we shared, clinging to them as if they were lifelines, for they are all I have left of you."
