She jumped on her bed, her stomach facing the bed, and her face buried in the pillows.
Her whole body is so tired of juggling preparation for college, helping her best friend with her dilemma, and honing her abilities and knowledge as a witch. Lizzie’s mother never taught her a spell.
She felt the door open, and she knew it was her mother. She acted like she was sleeping, but the smell of the freshly baked cookies enticed her nostrils. “Get up and eat some of these,” her mother said.
Anne handed Lizzie a cookie and without hesitation, Lizzie grabbed it and took a bite. It was like a warm bath after a long day. “Thank you,” she said, not meeting the eyes of her mother.
