This was my home for a long time, but I have nothing left here, no friends, no family, Everything swept away within the space of a couple Months. Let me start from the beginning. It is 2027 mid June. Our world has gone into crisis. Wars have been breaking out everywhere. Homes have been bombed, peoples lives lost. History, art, architecture, Everything that has been preserved and kept now lost in a cloud of smoke. This is World War III.

Taz turn on a small torchlight which he had taken along with him before sneaking inside the sacred library. Every book in the library was about the blood moon beast. Despite the alikeness of all the books, there was a particular one that caught Taz's attention. It was a grey book with ancient inscriptions. He pulled it out, dusted it and hid it inside his garment and hurried out of the hidden room. Unknown to Taz, as he walked out of the room through the secret door and out of the library, the secret room disappeared and there was no secret library there anymore.

There was a kind of respect in the way he let the question dangle. My father nodded once, a crisp downward dip of the chin. “For now.” Another pause, its duration just long enough to reestablish the hierarchy. Then he leaned back slightly, a posture less of relaxation than of disengagement. “There is a difference,” he continued, “between a war that begins by accident….” His gaze found Alexander again. “…and one that begins by design.” The implication hung between us. Someone wanted this war. It was no longer just a matter of pride or territory or even Gabriel; it was a matter of design, and my father intended to be its architect, not its victim.

I like taking my time, that way, I can get used to the idea of living with Xander. Sitting behind the counter in the bookstore, I listen to Vincent talking to his cars while I place an order for new books. One of those books is The Art of War by Sun Tsu. I want to read it and see why Alexei loves it so much. My thoughts turn to the BBQ, and I must admit, I enjoyed it a lot. And Rosemarie was right. Everyone seemed pretty normal. I don’t know what I expected. Maybe guns and men smoking cigars while plotting the end of the world?

To her, I was simply the survivor who had outlived the monsters. The messenger dragon appeared then a streak of crimson against the violet sky, plummeting toward them with the desperate speed of the dying. This ends not with a resolution, but with the realization that the war has already arrived at their doorstep. The Shadow Mother wasn't waiting for them at the Isle of Whispers. She was already tearing their world apart.

"Bring them to me. Personally." --- Back at the house, Dante found Arabelle in the library, a book open on her lap though she clearly wasn't reading it. She looked up when he entered, her eyes scanning him quickly, checking for injuries, he realized. "You're done?" she asked. "Yeah, I'm done." She nodded, closing the book. "Clean?" "Three dead, two sent back with a message." "Efficient." There was no judgment in her voice, just acknowledgment. She'd grown up in this world. She understood how it worked.

I can’t remember our pack ever going to war with any other packs except rogues, and even then, we only fought when they attacked us in our own home. “We did what had to be done. All is fair in war, and in war, one side must lose for the victor to emerge. They’ve already caused us so much, it’s only right we repay the favour twice as blunt,” another man spoke, and the rest of the people grunted in approval.
