Desperate. "Shh... shh, Monique, it's me. You're having a nightmare," Liam's cooed softly. But I stared at him—stared into the eyes of my parents' killer, the man who had ripped my world apart. Tears blurred my vision, hot and unstoppable, as the memories of the nightmare crashed down around me. The nightmare, the terror—it was him. And here he was, of all people, comforting me through the very nightmare he had caused.

It's like a nightmare of a twelve year old after watching a horror movie for the first time, it made me tossed and turned, flipping my pillow over and over, trying to find the cool side like it would help. The second trial comes in the form of a child. Her name is Mira, and she's eight years old with silver eyes that glow too bright and dreams that manifest whether she wants them to or not. She's one of the refugees who arrived with Pyra, and she's been having nightmares. Terrible nightmares that become real. Shadow-creatures that attack anyone nearby. Storms that rage inside buildings. Once, she dreamed the floor was lava, and three people were burned before I could dispel the manifestation. She's terrified of sleeping. Terrified of herself. And she's getting worse.

The words sent shivers down my spine and I trembled in the darkness as I lay beneath him. “Evaaaa.” Mia’s voice, mimicking the character WALL-E, snapped me out of my reverie and back to my room. I glanced over at her and saw her giving me a curious look, with one eyebrow raised. “Are you daydreaming again?” she asked softly, her tone filled with concern. Mia was the only person who knew about the intense and vivid nightmares that plagued me.

*** (James POV) I ended up staying at the waterfall for the rest of the night, waiting until the sun came up in the morning to head home. I fell asleep a few times, but each time I did so, I woke up after a short time after having had a vivid and unforgettable nightmare. Each of the nightmares re-lived the secrets that were revealed by Dr. Miller, Joey, and Jessica last night. After Stephanie died, nightmares had become a regular part of my sleeping experience. Hayden appeared to be having a nightmare, and he was mumbling incoherently. "Zenos… No… Zenos… Please… Don't leave me... it's cold… I missed you, Zenos… Zenos!"

Spencer Hayes's POV I lay in bed, my eyes fixed on the ceiling as I tried to calm my racing heart. It had been a week since Dmitri's absence, and I was starting to feel like I was losing my grip on reality. Every night, I had been plagued by nightmares.
