Over the past year, I’ve been having terrifying nightmares too. It happens every few weeks. And every time it happens, I’m afraid that I’ll never wake up. It is the most terrifying of all. “I… I don’t remember.” His lie was automatic. He didn’t discuss his nightmares. Theo knew the dreams said more about him and his fears than about the ordeal he had suffered. Theo felt her watchful gaze on him as he returned to bed. Dea quietly got in on her side. He tensed as she lay down, knowing she wasn’t going to let the matter drop. Her proximity set him on edge. The mattress was wide but he was extremely aware of her. Her scent, her warmth, and the sound of the silk nightie brushing against the cotton sheets. His willpower had been weakened by the nightmares and Theo knew he would reach out for her without thinking.

Nightmares are normal especially when your body feels just incredibly tired which causes your brain to produce things that are not really true that could allow you to dream about them and would cause you to wake up in the middle of your sleep covered in sweats and waking up to fast heart beating. I wasn’t even that bad.” “Please.” I rolled my eyes. “I only came to this school a semester ago—how would I know? But according to Eli, you broke a lot of hearts. And, sadly, girls always fall for the bad ones.” I raised my fingers in air quotes. “Not all nightmares are bad, Cross. They called you the nightmare they wouldn’t want to wake up from. Though, honestly, I thought otherwise when I first met you.” I giggled.

“You have survived the mafia, assassination attempts, being blown up and Caelum’s mother. Motherhood will be a breeze." We both knew that wasn't true, but it was sweet of her to say. “What’s it like to have nightmares?” the nightmare started in the fourteenth week. The same terror every night, but in different guises. Gregor discovering our home, coming through our unlocked door. Hurting the baby when I had no power to protect her. Thing I would put on that list: Killing Caelum in my presence. Sometimes I would wake up screaming, sometimes crying gently, always alone in our too big bed.

Hard to believe I’m days away from popping. My stomach is stretched far too much, my back aches, the fake contractions have me freaking out, and my feet are like balloons. I’m ready for the Little Nightmare to come out. The nickname Little Nightmare seems to be sticking. It’s slightly fitting as her father is a demigod of death and her mothers is a lycan. These are definitely two things that would give normal people nightmares, and Everly is a combination of those things. We decided to call her Ever as a cute nickname and Little Nightmare as her nickname for when she is driving us crazy.
