The laugh cut off instantly. I frowned, leaning forward on the sofa. Glitch, I told myself. Just a compressed audio error. I unpaused it. The movie continued, but the laughter returned a few seconds later, layered underneath the dialogue. It was mocking, a rhythmic he-he-he that seemed to pulse with a life of its own.

Dark blonde hair started to call and then we already set ourselves to carry Monica on the third number, but before we were able to, she sat up suddenly. “Stop... I am not dead! Jasmine, you said you would protect me, is this the protection?” Monica glared at me almost crying and I couldn't help it anymore. I laughed out, holding my belly. Dark blonde hair couldn't help it as well, she didn't laugh but she scoffed and looked away to hide her grin. “Don’t laugh!” Monica cried out, gently swiping her thumb on her eyes. “Wait, you're crying?” I stopped laughing and moved closer.
