Rose scolded me. "Come on, Rose. You know I don't believe any of the people's stories about this monster or what, I don't want to know." I replied. It was true, we were having some serious problems about young girls being abducted. Some came back alive but the others were found dead into the woods. People started making stories about a monster with red eyes behind the abductions. They said he was taking them into the woods to drink their blood. Some people believed it, along with my family and friends, but not me. I was not stupid to believe some man made stories.

I’d only seen them for a second, but in that second I’d been utterly sure of what they were, and who they belonged to. It was impossible, but so much of my life was; it seemed stupid to discount something simply because it shouldn’t be possible. Nothing supernatural made sense, and yet here I was, sat at a table with two seasoned hunters and a lifelong battle ahead of me, fighting against things that shouldn’t be. So I pushed my glass to one side, and I recounted a story of my own: the tale of a girl with blue-grey eyes, watching me from the shadows as I ran.

Others, once beaten, got up with a sudden, strange clearness in their eyes, their actions becoming more exact, more aimed. The foe wasn't just many; they were healing, changing, learning.

“You’re a monster. Wolves kill humans. I saw my mother die at the hands of a rogue.” His jaw tightened. “And I saw my brother slaughtered by hunters. We are even, then?” The words cut deep. "Wolves are monsters, and I will die protecting humans from your lot." she offered. "You don't seem to be doing a very good job of it little hunter, offering me water."

Jamela held a mischievous smirk on her face before delivering her own ultimatum. "What's in it for me?" She tried bargaining. "Well, I could avoid ripping your throat out," I threatened. "Fair enough. Such a dick," she grumbled. "What was that?" I asked knowingly. "Oh, nothing. What do you want to know about them?" She asked sitting on the ground out of sight.
