Scars of the Heart
“We’ll finish this together.”
Enoch smiled weakly. “That’s all I ever wanted.”
He surged forward, light exploding from his chest. Monroe’s scream filled the cavern as Enoch’s light tore into him, consuming the unstable energy he had stolen. The golden glow shattered, ripped apart by the blaze.
“Elena!” Enoch shouted one last time, voice burning into her soul. “Live.”
Then his body erupted in pure white fire, swallowing Monroe whole.
Then silence fell.
The cavern shook violently, rocks collapsing from above, but Monroe was gone. Reduced to ash and dust, his scream extinguished. Only a faint golden smear of light lingered, then vanished.
