“You think I don’t?” Corvin snapped.
Before the argument could flare again, the overhead speaker crackled.
“Contestants,” the neutral automated voice intoned, “report to cleansing chambers before next event. Biohazard thresholds exceeded. Contaminant purge required.”
Jax sniffed his sleeve. “Yeah, I believe that.”
I caught the scent then, too, under the disinfectant and metal: sweat, blood, ink, whatever passed for monster guts here. It clung to my skin, sticky and foreign.
