Nicky had done far worse than just bite me. I looked up and coldly stared at her. "You people are really made for each other." "What's that supposed to mean?" she snapped. "You know what it means," I said, standing up to jab my finger in her shoulder. "You're a monster who beat up my wife so badly that she was critically wounded." Then, I whipped my shaking finger around to point at Nicky. "And as for you, you're a little monster who flushed my wife's ashes down the toilet!"

“Which checks out—since you’re just a pretty little cunt with daddy issues.” Crack. The back of my hand slammed across his mouth so hard his head jerked sideways. I stepped into him, eyes locked on his, and my voice low and shaking. “Wrong,” I whispered. “I’m your worst fucking nightmare.” His lip split, but he only laughed like a maniac. I’d met his kind before—men who fed on fear, one who didn’t break with pain. But even monsters had a threshold. And I knew exactly where to find his.

She was bloodied and badly wounded but Chloe could feel that she was still alive. The shadows didn’t hesitate. They lunged forward, moving like ghosts as they charged at the creature. The creature let out a enraged shriek that was so loud Chloe thought her eardrums might burst. But still, the wolves carried on, unaffected by the inhuman sound. Something about the shadows charging it down clearly unsettled the mysterious monster because it was off of its victim in an instant darting off into the forest without a trace. It’s time for you to go back, your majesty Another voice echoed through Chloe’s mind. You have been here too long.

I muttered, scared that if the monsters spread how I had come to Raven's room, it'd get to the hearing of both Lucian and Thorne. "Is that what you want?" he asked softly, cupping my face in his cold, steady hands. My eyes reached for his, and I nodded my head. "Alright. I will be right back. Once I talk to them, they won't say a word." With that, he went out of his room. With just one word from him, every monster on the fifth floor came out from their various rooms. Somewhere were vampires, ghouls, and somewhere dragons. I stood by the door, listening to the conversation he was having with them.

There were the usual ads for x-ray glasses and onion gum and joy buzzers and Charles Atlas, but one at the bottom caught my eye. SEA MONSTER PETS! HATCH THESE CREATURES IF YOU DARE! I’d seen ads for Sea Monkeys before, and Matt had told me they were a species of shrimp. But sea monsters? I read the fine print but the ad gave no details other than a legal-sounding paragraph about the company not being responsible for escaped creatures or any harm they inflicted. I looked at the cost, then jumped off the bed and grabbed my piggy bank from the bureau. I emptied the contents onto the bed and counted. I had enough money.

That person was Chase! "These monsters are horrifying." Chase looked down and saw a bloody thread run through both the monsters' chests. One of them was a snake-like monster while the other had eagle-like claws. It looked like a Flood Dragon.

No, it couldn’t be… The large beast flapped its serpentine wings above her head as it came in for a landing. It’s scales took on the color of honey, shining like mirrors in the sun, and it landed with the grace of a blue heron, as it’s onyx talons clacked against the concrete patio. Madchen gasped as the beast shook it’s shiny scales, and sitting atop its head were two beautiful black horns. Ruby eyes blinked in the morning mist, eyes that looked vaguely familiar to her.

I don't know why I keep forgetting she's not entirely real, maybe it's because I can see her and talk to her but then again I'm the only one who can do that. "It's okay Heaven. At least you can talk to me." She sounds so sad that my heart aches for her. "It's better than nothing and I had nothing for a while, centuries to be exact." "I believe you. You are not a monster." I say, trying to control the tears that are threatening to fall. "But she was a monster. She destroyed me. Remember when I told you about why she cursed me?" "Yes." Of course I remember. "After Soliaire was banished along with the rest of his followers Mistress Rosemont started keeping a tight leash on us. She didn't want t

No dragon. “Wh-who are you?” Nya stammared, her sword out in front of her as she prepared to defend herself. As far as she could see, he wasn’t armed, but he might be some sort of a sorcerer or something. As concerned as she was that the monster she’d come to kill had disappeared into thin air, she had to deal with this mysterious person first. He didn’t look threatening as he stood across from her, sizing her up, but he didn’t look happy either. Nya had faced off against many an angry, muscular man in her life. This guy was built like a slab of stone. Muscles on top of muscles. He was tall, too. At least a foot taller than her. He was glaring at her, which made his handsome face look dark a
