The discovery of the black book changed the mood of the expedition more effectively than any warning could have. Until that moment, the ruins had inspired a strange mixture of caution and excitement. Every new street promised answers. Every buried structure hinted at forgotten history. The book felt different. It sat at the center of the library like a challenge, silent and unmoving, yet impossible to ignore. Even those who had little interest in ancient records found themselves glancing toward it whenever conversation faltered.

Today we caught three and I can already feel the excitement in the kitchen as there'll be more than enough meat for everyone plus leftovers for breakfast tomorrow. Bringing joy like that to people just has a way of filling that empty dark hole in me so I keep doing it. I haven't even sat down to read a book since I got here, I just make sure I am always moving, doing something, training, making someone smile, anything but standing in one place for those dark thoughts to encroach on me. A book I read called it abandonment issues but they'll never understand how bad it is to be marked by the one being that's hard-wired to want you and yet at the slightest inconvenience, throws you away.

She curled up on the couch with a cup of herbal tea and a good book, immersing herself in the world of fiction and letting her mind wander to far-off places and exciting adventures. The soft glow of the lamp illuminated the pages of the book, casting a warm light that enveloped Hazel in a sense of comfort and relaxation. The characters came to life in her imagination, and she found herself getting lost in their stories, feeling a sense of connection and empathy with their struggles and triumphs.

The thought of eating my lunch made me want to crave for a butter garlic chicken with a sweet and sour dip. “Oh my God…” I murmured to myself when I started picturing the food inside my mind. “I have to eat some or I am going to have a bad mood for the rest of the day.” I talk to myself before I close the book that I was reading. With the book that I would be using later, I carry it on my left arm then look for my bag and the other book that Damian gave earlier. The two books on my arms feels annoyingly heavy but I ignored it since I have no choice but to carry these myself.

Heat surged through me, blooming in my chest and creeping slowly into my cheeks as I shifted in my seat, subtly clenching my thighs together. A low buzz vibrated through my body, ignited by the words in the book I held. The tension in my limbs made it nearly impossible to sit still. Every page felt like fire, and I devoured the words faster than I ever had before. It was like my eyes were starved, and the book was a feast—rich, decadent, indulgent.

I released a breath as we stated like that for few seconds before he pulled out. "I'm leaving now, enjoy your book." He smiled, walking out after. I sighed, taking my hand to my chest, which was racing. Why does he affect me this much? 'He is our mate, so it's normal.' Kyra's voice rang in my head. I stood there for a some minutes before going back to the chair. I opened the book and began reading. This one was the complete opposite of the other book. Just the first page intrigued my interest, and throughout the read, I enjoyed every bit of it, probably because it's a romance genre.
