MOONBOUND SECRETS
Ryland barks, blood streaking his jaw.
We crash through the underbrush, thorns tearing at our clothes. The twins’ ragged breaths sync with mine, a frantic rhythm punctuated by the rogues’ snarls. Ahead, moonlight spills into a clearing where a monolith of black stone rises, veins of silver pulsing like a heartbeat. The Moonwell glows beyond it, its waters shimmering an unearthly blue.
“The guardian,” Ryland warns, skidding to a halt.
The monolith shudders. Shadows coil and twist, forming a figure of smoke and starlight—a being with eyes like fractured glass and a voice that scrapes my skull. *“Only the worthy may pass.”*
