Aresios rushed to the cradle and lifted the infant god. On her delicate body, which should have been glowing with golden light, wisps of dark energy had appeared. It was the aura of sickness, an affliction of mortals.
I was in disbelief. "I didn't! I didn't even touch her!"
I shook my head frantically. Oceanus strode forward, his eyes as cold as an ancient tide.

The blow, laced with primordial power, struck my face. My vision went black, my ears roared, and blood poured from the corner of my mouth.
