I actually found the political maneuvering in the Shirone Kingdom to be a bit of a slog on my first read. Pax Shirone's internal conflict and the whole succession crisis felt like a detour when all I wanted was for Rudy to hurry back home. In retrospect, it's necessary world-building, but the pacing really slows down in the middle section.

The timeline is linear, so volume 7 is next. But what's cool is how this volume changes the story's scale. Previous volumes were about personal survival and family. Volume 7 shifts to building a place in society.

Chronologically, Rudy is becoming a public figure here, not just a skilled adventurer. His actions at the university start to give him fame and connections. This sets up his role in later political and military conflicts.

So its placement is a turning point from a personal journey to a story with wider societal impact. The friendships he makes here become his political and personal allies later on. It's a subtle but crucial shift in the narrative's direction.
