"Ma'am..." "Hi, Adrian." A familiar voice called out my name and when I looked at my two O'clock, I saw Gabe packing up a box. Gabe was dressed in his firefighter station uniform, which looked incredibly sharp on him. "Gabe." I called out, smiling. "Why are you packing up the place? Where's the ma'am?" I asked when I wasn't seeing the woman anywhere in sight. Gabe's eyes widened in distress as he nearly dropped the box in his hand. He shook his head, and a sorrowful sigh escaped his lips. "Mom is dead," he mumbled, his voice barely audible.

My eyes snapped open. "They're coordinates." Pierre blinked. "What?" "They're not financial records." He looked back down at the pages. "You sure?" "The formatting." I pointed at several groups of numbers. "They aren't separated like money. They're written like locations." His expression slowly shifted. "Holy shit." "I think..." I grabbed my laptop and began checking the first sequence. Seconds later, a location appeared. Not a business. Not a bank. An old storage facility. Pierre stared. "No way."

I never knew how important that little news reel would become. The sound was off, but the images were a relentless, cheerful assault. Lots of flashing pictures of happy, diverse people laughing as they used their XBands to navigate gleaming cities, hug their families, and achieve professional bliss. The chyron at the bottom of the screen stated, with bland finality: XBAND'S NEW AI FLAGSHIP - 'PRIMUS' - THE LARGEST AI BRAIN EVER MADE, IS NOW SINGLE-HANDEDLY RUNNING ALL XBAND SOFTWARE. A NEW ERA OF SEAMLESS INTEGRATION.
