I rasped and sent the message. I decided to clean up even if I had no idea what happened, I live here and I have nowhere else to go. He responds in a blunt tone, his Mom looks between them with a fake smile before shifting her gaze to me. "Cassandra, who's your friend?" She tilts her head, staring at me, specifically at the tattoos scattered on my arm. "My boyfriend's name is Jace, mom." Cass places her hand on the back of my chair. "Boyfriend? You broke up with Jake?" She doesn't sound surprised. "This is not the time." Cass shakes her head at her Mom, basically shutting her up. Wow, I wish I had that kind of power. "Okay, then, let's eat." The woman puts on that annoying fake smile again as she rubs her hands together.

Thank God she finally divorced that devil! I toss myself on the couch and dig into the meal. Spaghetti and minced meat. It's fùcking delicious. "So, are you not going to tell me about that very long kiss?" Mom asks bluntly. "And before you think about saying he's your friend -" "He's still my friend." I grin. "Who also happens to be my boyfriend." "Finally!" She claps. "Mom, don't be dramatic." "Excuse me." She says sharply. "I'm allowed to be happy when my daughter is dating someone who's good for her."

She looked at Adrian with something between love and fear. "He's all I have. But sometimes I wonder if I'm doing more harm than good by keeping him." "Mom—"

A few hours later, I got a call from mom. "Hello, mom?" "Hey, honey? How are you feeling, dear?" Mom asked. I informed her about my suddenly appendectomy and everything. They knew that I was staying at my boyfriend's place. "Mom, I am doing a lot better. Hopefully, I will return tomorrow." I mentioned. "Okay, dear. I had news for you. But before that, tell me something. Your boyfriend, is he from the Shield family of California? The son of Shield Group?" Mom inquired.

"I see, I just wonder what she is doing with someone much older than her, I mean that man could be her father or almost, looks like a professor or...." "That's not a nice thing to say about someone you barely know," I said, cutting her short. "I'm sorry? You can clearly see that she is very young and a man?" "How does it matter? She is happy, he's happy, and they are in love so what does age have to do with this?" I threw back at her, immediately I lost my appetite. The one thing I cannot stand was judgemental people, and it was obvious that my boyfriend's mother was one, or rather a fucking a queen.

My mom is a traditionalist. Unlike my liberal dad, who didn't mind me having a boyfriend, my mom never forgets to remind me to stay pure and keep myself for my mate whenever she calls. That is why I declined when Jamie offered to go home with me. My mother is blunt to a fault and will never pretend to be polite to him. This is not the right time for them to meet.
