My eyes blur and dialate. Everything appears artificial and unclear. I stagger sideways. My throat again itch. I again could numerous blood pint. It's really a bad sign. Catherine's POV I force myself up from the ground, my whole body shaking. My fingers tremble as I wipe the blood from my nose. Everything feels… wrong. Still, I turn and start walking back toward the hospital. Maybe I made a mistake leaving.

The cat continued to scratch until it suddenly developed sharp claws and began to tear through his clothes. “Sir,” I began but I trailed off. He turned his dreadful eyes away from me, while the animal continued its digging. Soon enough, the cat had torn through his clothes and started to tear through his skin. Slowly, its paws and nails were stained with more and more blood. I didn't need to be told to leave.

I see the doc moving his hands feeling around the area and I know he is checking for the bullet. “Can you find it? We need to remove it.” I say and he looks up at me, his hands covered in her blood, and he shakes his head. “She will need surgery and a blood transfusion. I don’t know how far the nearest zoo is that may stock the relative blood she needs. It would have to be blood from either a tiger or a panther. It can’t be any other big cat blood.” He says and I look at Tank and he is still talking on the phone.

I managed to say, "I don't know, my neck and head hurt like hell." She held my face and opened my eyes wider. "Ouch..." I complained. She looked inside my nose and then let go. Did I perhaps knock my neck too hard on something and it got scratched? I heard her shout at Kat, "you know you are sitting there with my sister who's perfectly fine and your girlfriend is fucken bleeding there."

I turn my head as a small, fluffy white cat pads into view, a pink collar fixed around its neck with a shimmering moonstone hanging from it. “Go away,” I hiss. “I’m allergic.” The cat sits down several feet away and begins licking its paw, its snubbed face cast in the shadow of the amber light spilling from the single sconce. It eyes me wearily, purring softly as I rise on unsteady legs. Blood trickles down my arm and into the glove.

“Nothing. I mean, nothing was happening. I’ve kept him in my room and he’s been getting better. Less scared of me. I locked him out of the carrier and he jumped up on the bed with me a couple times. But all of the sudden he’s trembling and he won’t walk right—he’s keeping himself down really low when he moves. And he’s pinned himself between the bed and the nightstand and now he’s making these weird noises, listen.” I held the phone up close to the cat, who thankfully made that horrible yeowl, then spat. He even shot out a clawed paw and struck my hand. I yanked it back, swearing. “He scratched me!” I told her. “I don’t know what’s going on, Cara. He was fine an hour ago I swear.” She was qu

I asked Rae, already assuming the answer was no. Confirming my suspicions, Rae shook her head, "I have no idea." As I squinted closer at the cat, I noticed one of its hind legs seemed to not work because it sat back on its haunches, the dead leg sticking out at an awkward angle. Its pelt was spotted white and grey, but patches of the fur were falling out, leaving ugly bald strips behind. It had crooked whiskers that twitched along with its nose that was moving rapidly to identify who was around.

I nearly stumbled over the glass on the floor, catching myself on the edge of the bed as I pushed forward. I let out a ragged breath as I laid him down, both of us stained with blood and tears. My chest rose and fell hard as I pushed myself up to look at the kitten’s carrier—where he’d been standing just moments before. I bit my lip so hard I tasted more blood. I hadn’t imagined it. The kitten… it was dead. Its head was severed from its body.
