“I’m fine.” She studied me for a moment. “You looked sad.” I bent my head as if that would help me understand what she said. “Did I?” She nodded slowly, “I had this weird dream. In it, you were really sad and it looked like I was the reason you were sad.” Before I could say anything, she laughed awkwardly. “Forget it, It was probably just a dream.” She said as she scratched the back of her neck. “I mean, why would my boss be sad over me?”

I kept going on and on, delving into his features, till I realized I'm feening over my boss, my arrogant and overly annoying boss. ‎ ‎ ‎I had to call myself to order when my phone buzzed, and I really hoped it was that nepo baby calling—oh, I'm referring to my boss. I picked up the call hoping he'd give a reasonable excuse as to why he refused to come into work, even though he had a very important meeting today. What if he was abducted by some goons? What if he was really stuck in traffic? What if he developed a sudden illness? Or what if his girlfriend caught him cheating and decided to kill him? At this point, I was just looking for excuses to justify his absence.

I mumbled in disbelief, my breath hardened as I felt an uneasy sensation surging into my bones. “Yes, sir. She’s the one who owes the $40,000,” Derick added, and I shifted my gaze to him. The boss chuckled again and rose from his seat. “Hmmm… so you’re the lady who’s in debt to me huh? The one who's boyfriend tricked me,” he said smoothly. I instinctively stepped back.
