But he didn’t interrupt. “My sister…” My voice broke again, softer this time. “Do you even understand what this means?”

I am her older sister, and I have not travelled nearly as far as I have in order to be turned down." As I glare at her, I straighten my posture. "You said 'friend' not 'sister.'" She scowls at me.
