Then his gaze lifted, cold. “We’re no longer husband and wife, Solane. So, as my brother’s wife, it’s unethical for you to walk into your brother-in-law’s room without permission.” I crossed my arms and said quietly, “I don’t consider you my brother-in-law.” He froze, not visibly—but I saw it in the flicker of his pupils, the half-second pause in his breath before he moved again.

I knew she wouldn't help me if I had told her I and my husband were looking for a surrogate baby mama, so I told her we just needed a maid. "No, I'm not," I shrug, and she scoffs and leans forward.
