I fell into the war chair—once carved by dragonbone, now chipped at the edges, like everything else I had made. A servant entered with wine. I ignored it. Instead, I studied the maps spread before me. Dotted lines. Disappearing territories. It was all worthless without an ally.

Violated. She felt the burn of it against her fingertips—not heat, but memory. Like he’d been here. Like he’d leaned close, whispering into the soul of the house, leaving this scar behind. All I could hear was Sera faintly laughing as more explosives went off. This isn't good– this isn't good at all. More of her men joined while Sera came towards my frozen body. She lifted my chin, “I won't cause you any harm physically. But your kingdom will be in the worst possible shape ever. You know who can be thanked for that, your highness. I warned you, and you refused. So, your kingdom will suffer along with the citizens. Sorry, it has to be this way. Let the war begin."

Her brother Khalid had always laughed, wondering how she hadn't still gotten used to it but she never humored him with her reply. She never had plans of staying in that sand accursed kingdom; Khasi was born to dominate and dominate she would once she had the three kingdoms under her feet. The cold October wind brought in the scent of the forest and the sounds of her guards feasting down below. They had just won a battle and seemed ignorant of the war yet to come. "War." She whispered, hating the way the word rolled off her tongue. War destroyed lives and families but it was a necessary evil she was willing to delve in if it meant her plans would come to fruition.

“And Claudia will push harder than ever.” Alexander reached for her hand. “Then we push back harder.” They stood in silence for a moment, the weight of the war ahead pressing down on both of them. Outside, the city lights glittered like a thousand watchful eyes. And somewhere beyond them, Claudia was already preparing her next move.

I opened the door and my heart tripped over itself. Jace. We stood there, locked in a silence so thick it felt like the air itself had stopped moving.
