I pulled my arm from his grip and ran. “Athena what’s wrong” My mum walked from behind me pulling my face up to look at her, tears streaming down my face most certainly smearing my makeup. “Hector isn’t my… my mate” I sobbed. “Oh, baby it will be ok. I’m going to take a guess and say you know this because you have found your mate here. Am I right?” I didn’t answer just nodded my head. “Meeting your mate Athena is a good thing, have you spoken to him?”

I wrapped myself with the blanket as I was already stained with blood, and I stared at him as the deflating aftermath of the orgasm came crashing down on me. He was dressing up quickly with the detached movements of someone who wanted to get away from me and this as fast as possible. This was the right time to tell him that I was his mate before he disappeared into the world and I never got to see him again. Nevertheless, I was scared. I sat up slowly, feeling a slight pain in my lower body. “Don’t you feel it?” I whispered. “Speak loudly.” He barked harshly. “The mate-bond.” I blurted out. I watched the color drain rapidly from his face.

“I gotta go. I have a date with Aaron.” Grace’s teasing grin returned. “Stuff the doctor. Go for the alpha!” My cheeks burned brighter as I noticed others turning their heads in curiosity. Throwing a quick goodbye over my shoulder, I rushed out of the room and down the hallway. Once inside my car, I leaned back against the seat, taking a moment to process everything Grace had said. Was it even remotely possible that Nicholas could be my mate? It seemed ridiculous. Still, doubt gnawed at my thoughts. I shook my head and started the engine.

I didn't address it the following day because I didn't want her to be sad about anything. Like me, I knew how much it pained her that we weren't officially mates. However, I didn't care about that. Of course I came to help dissolve the bond!” Ian’s eyes blazed with anger. “That was all your assumption! I never agreed to it!” He turned to me quickly, rushing to explain. “Rachel, don’t believe her! I never agreed to any of this. Please don’t misunderstand. You are the only mate I truly chose.” I watched silently, as if observing a poorly acted scene. Ian, however, placed all the blame on Ariel. He grabbed her roughly, and the warm, tender demeanor he once reserved for her vanished entirely, replaced by pure disgust.

I laughed, “That was awesome to hear.” Alex stepped forward, “Grandma, this is my mate, Grace. Grandma Abby hugged her tightly, “Bless your heart, Grace. I’m so happy to meet you.” Grace chuckled, “I’m happy to meet you too. Don’t worry, I have him under control.” Grandma laughed, “That’s exactly that that boy needs.” Alex just shook his head as he pulled Grace close to his side, “She already has me whipped. She is the only woman who matters now.” Grace nodded, “See?” Grandma Abby laughed, “Girl, you’re gonna fit in perfectly.”

My gaze held hers, searching for any flicker of doubt, any trace of hesitation. "Grace," I rasped, my voice thick with emotion, "The Choosing… it's over. The bond with Tessa… it's broken." Her eyes widened in shock, a mix of disbelief and dawning hope swirling within their depths. Before she could voice the question hanging in the air, I surged forward, cupping her face once more. "And you," I breathed, my voice husky with conviction, "you are my mate." Her eyes bulged, but she didn't hesitate to open her mouth as I devoured her. My heart pounded a fierce rhythm against my ribs.

Dean narrows his eyes at both of us, “What were you guys talking about?” Dean asks and I open my mouth to give as close to the truth as I can, without giving away Lux’s mate status, but Lux beats me to it. “We were discussing the fact that Grace can sense mates.” He answers, and I turn quickly back to him, not believing he just said that. He flinches and looks down shaking his head, just now realizing what he did, and I nearly laugh at him.
