She even nodded which we responded. I heard dad cleared his throat. "So, son, how was she? Is it just fine? Will you accept our relationship?" he asked. I immediately looked at him and think for a second. Who am I not to give them a chance? "She will be now my step mom?" I politely asked. "If that will be just fine with you," "Can I just call her aunt Laura or aunt? I don't really know what should I call her." Dad just plastered a smile after hearing what I said. He knows that it's just fine with me.

I yelled, and the little hint of playfulness in his eyes was now gone, leaving only an eerie smile and looks that could probably kill me in a second. “I don’t belong to you, not anymore, not when you’ve just drawn the goddamn line about our relationship, about us. You’re my stepfather, that’s what you are. Also, the person who’s hurting me with every passing second of my life which I gladly want to end, if that would take away all this pain.” I deadpan, sizing him up.

But here I was, just now getting dressed. I dashed out of the bathroom, still dripping, and flung open my wooden wardrobe. Its doors were barely hanging on, termites long since making a meal of it. I found them sprawled on the sofa, laughing as if the world was theirs. The woman was draped over him, her lipstick smeared across his mouth, her heels digging into the couch cushions. “What the hell do you think you are doing?” I snapped, as soon as I got down the stairs. They both turned to look at me like I was an annoying bug. "Who I am doesn’t concern you," the woman said with a cruel smile. "But since you asked... I'm your stepmom,” she paused, exchanging glances with my stepfather. Her words hit me harder than any slap.

“I think of you as a friend, but you want to be my mom?” I quickly shook my head. “No, no, I already have two babies. I don’t have enough motherly love to go around. Let’s just stay friends.” Then, I tilted my head and looked at her. “If you like me so much, why don’t you want me to be your stepmom?” “Stepmoms are always bad. Besides, I already have a mom. She’s in heaven.” She pointed at the sky. I was caught off guard. Just yesterday, Cameron had talked about finding Rachel a new mom. It looked like that was going to be tough.

He must have realised I wasn't worth the stress. Gathering my emotions, I headed to see what I could do to help. Once this ends, I will leave. I went to look for my mother, where she was in her lab, and I noticed she was checking something. "Mom?" I asked her, right around the time Celeste, my younger sister, walked in.
