In the center of the chamber, suspended over a massive, churning whirlpool of black water, was the Paris Heart. It was twice the size of the London engine, a perfect, translucent sphere of lunar crystal, but it was entirely submerged within a cylindrical glass containment tank that was being fed by four massive intake pipes. The water inside the tank was a thick, bubbling purple liquid the concentrated essence waste. The Heart wasn't white or blue; it was a deep, bruised magenta, its internal core fractured into a thousand tiny veins that spit out small, jagged needles of dark energy into the surrounding water.

Chapter 4 Three days It had been three days since the accident. Elara sat in the hospital reception, her eyes hollow from exhaustion. She had been there for two days straight. She had cried more than she thought was possible; her tears had run dry, leaving only a beating heart and a numb mind behind.

A kitchen, huge TV lounge decorated with a wall TV screen that was attached to multiple gadgets of gaming consoles, music players, home theaters and much more. The bedrooms were decorated with glass walls, covered with thick curtains to prevent any eye watching the activities going on inside. It had a terrace too, facing two sides of the road with a corner. It was a home to the three of them. They were practically joined hip to hip, inseparable and insatiable. They were the HEART MIND and SOUL of each other, since childhood, throughout their high school, till now, excelled in their respective fields, yet madly in love with each other. Sounds crazy!

They rounded a final corner and stepped onto a gantry that overlooked the central excavation pit. Both of them froze. The chamber was immense, a hollowed-out cavern that seemed to stretch down into the mantle of the earth. The walls were lined with thousands of dampening rods and cooling towers, all aimed at the center of the pit. Suspended in the middle of the void, held in place by massive chains made of a dark, non-reflective metal, was the Heart. It was the size of a cathedral.

In simpler terms, there are several small holes between the left and right ventricles of her heart.” My breath catches. “She… she was born with this?” “Yes,” he says gently. “It’s a congenital heart defect. But in some cases, symptoms don’t appear until later. The fatigue, the fainting spells—these are signs the defects have begun to affect her heart’s ability to pump efficiently.”

Her hospital gown swept aside by the flow, the left chest cavity was a gaping void. Ribs twisted outward. In the heart’s place, a mechanical heart pulsed, emitting blue light. Hundreds of fiber conduits pierced the metal surface, connecting to top-of-tank maintenance systems. Pumping rhythmically. One pulse. One glow.
