Medically, it’s a defect in the structure of the heart that’s affecting her blood flow.” I blinked rapidly, trying to absorb what he said. “A hole? How… how serious is it?” My voice was barely a whisper. “It can be serious, depending on the size and location,” the doctor explained. “In some cases, it can lead to reduced oxygen in the blood, fatigue, shortness of breath, or even sudden collapse, which is likely what happened today.”
